  • Evernote

Evernote, developed by Evernote Corp, is a way to store notes and documents across all of your devices.

You can capture notes -- text, photos or full pages -- before storing data in your Evernote folder just by firing up the app and choosing to create a new note. If you're in a lecture, this feature is a handy way to quickly grab and then digitally organize your notes in preparation for exams and essays.

One of the latest features to be added is the ability to edit rich text. Although designed to help you add links, bulleted links and more, it currently leaves something to be desired.

This app is compatible with the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Requires iOS 5.0 or later.

    Price: Free

    Download: Apple App Store

  • Pages

Pages, developed by Apple, is an alternative to Microsoft's Word.

The word processor allows you to create, edit and view documents on your Apple devices. The app comes with a number of templates for letters, reports, flyers, posters and cards. The app allows you to create and edit colors and textures within the file, as well as build charts, insert images and create footnotes, to name but a few functions.

In addition, the app works with iCloud, so you can update a file across all of your devices easily. You can also use the 'Open in another app' feature to send a file across to services such as Dropbox.

This app is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch and iPad. Requires iOS 5.1 or later.

    Price: £6.99 ($10.70)

    Download: Apple App Store

  • Notability

Notability, developed by Ginger Labs, is note-taking application built purposely for the iPad.

Notability is useful for hand-written annotation -- by importing media including notes, powerpoint and .pdf files, you can annotate as you see fit using the iPad's touchscreen capabilities. The app includes a zoom feature to quickly add detail to a file, while the 'palm rest' feature stops you from protecting your notes from unwanted marks.

You can also use a spellcheck and add styling features including text boxes, outlines and bullet points.

Annotated files can then be shared through email or cloud services.

This app is compatible with the iPad. Requires iOS 5.0 or later.

    Price: £1.49 ($2.30)

    Download: Apple App Store

  • Apps the good list

I found the most useful student apps here in this list. But most of the apps are cost dollars. That's quite not fair for me. The features of the app make me drawn to get it on my iPhone. I did some research recently and listed out what students are using these days so check here.
But now i feel that they should land up here to know more.

  • Anki: the right flash cards app

I'm sorry but the right flash cards app is Anki: http://ankisrs.net Among many other features (HTML, CSS, Latex, and so on) it's multplatform (Linux, Mac OS X, Windows, iOS, Android, and many more) and there is a SDK for creating plugins.

  • iThoughts ... Excellent!

I've been using it on an iPhone and iPad since it was first released. Wonderful. Dirt cheap. And, the author is helpful, responsive and keeps working on the app to make it better. You can't touch this kind of program at this level of quality for less than hundreds of dollars. As of early 2013 it had not been ported to windows on desktop but that might have changed by now, I don't know.

  • Ironic.

American schools used to be great before the toy tech came in.

Steve Jobs, a shameless college dropout, lambasted America's education system but wouldn't be bothered to hire anybody without a $75k+ Bachelor's degree (at least before he got off in taking taxpayer-funded corporate welfare, offshoring to communist countries, ignoring what engineers say about defective products and then blame the customers after finally releasing the thing...)

  • Not Bad but is it usable

My son starts college this year and being a tech junkie I sat with him and his counselor and loaded him up with all the goodies he may need. His selection wasn't iOS.
I asked him to look at this list and gauge its usability thinking to find equivalents on Android or MS (ASUS UL, Note 10, Optimus G), While he agreed on a few of your choices he found most to be useless or over the top. After talking it over with him I agree. Most of your selections look to be predicated on having to limit yourself to a tablet / phone combo on iOS. Not cool.

Nice list as it gave me a starting point to have him review. He leveraged your list and found a number of apps he felt he needed for his freshman year. For that I say thanks.
