Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx is slated for release later this week and arrives as the harbinger of a new look for the distribution. ZDNet UK's sister site ZDNet Australia has installed the release candidate to give you a peek.
Booting up: An updated Plymouth-based splash screen welcomes users to Lucid Lynx upon start-up — unless one is making use of an Intel-based graphics chip, in which case you get the regular Linux boot screen, but thankfully a fix is only a search engine query away.
Installation: The install procedure has received the new Ubuntu look and is the first sight of the windows icon's move to the left and new dark theme that the distribution sports.
Password strength: The installer now provides feedback on password strength and the option to encrypt the user's home directory in one place. If you wish to shoot for a strong password, be prepared to insert numbers, symbols and capital letters.
