Accenture has been awarded contracts by the US Army in order to maintain and support one of the largest enterprise resource planning systems in the world, the General Fund Enterprise Business System (GFEBS).

The technology services firm has secured two contracts with a combined value of $53.1 million. One contract, valued at $42 million, ensures Accenture provides maintenance and daily operations support across several functions, including project management, help desk and application development of GFEBS. The second, worth $11.1 million, requires the company to provide on-site training and support throughout US Army bases.

The General Fund Enterprise Business System, delivered by the company in 2012, wove together the US Army's 107 legacy systems in financial management and property in order to establish a single core record of financial, real property, cost management and performance data. This, in turn, provided the Army General Fund the information required to improve financial accountability and making audits easier.

The GFEBS business system also makes the army compliant with the Federal Financial Management Improvement Act.

GFEBS currently manages $220 billion in transactions and serves more than 52,000 users at 227 worldwide locations.

Joe Chenelle, who leads Accenture’s defense and intelligence agency business, commented:

"Declining budgets are creating challenges and opportunities in the defense community. GFEBS is providing decision makers with better ways to manage the enterprise, helping the Army save money and increase efficiency with streamlined financial business processes."

Accenture serves clients in more than 120 countries. The company generated net revenues of $28.6 billion in the last fiscal year.
