Amazon on Tuesday launched updates for its Kindle for Android and Apple iOS apps and included Whispersync for Voice, which allows readers to switch between reading a book and listening to one via Audible easily.

The move is interesting on a few fronts. Consider:

Amazon's move is likely to attach more audio books along with eBook sales. The attach rate between Audible and Kindle e-books is likely to improve.

The company is trying to find more time in the day for readers to consumer content. Not surprisingly, there's a business benefit for increased consumption.

Amazon's app upgrade is another way to boost engagement with the e-commerce, content and increasingly hardware company.

A double bonus would be that Amazon could add a few Whispersync wrinkles for its smartphone buyers. Amazon has sent out invites for an event June 18. Most folks expect a 3D smartphone to launch.

  • And once again

Amazon proves incapable of regularly updating their WP app.

I'm guessing it will remain terrible forever.

  • Please

just give me any sync for Audible on Windows!

My Android, iOS and WP8 devices all sync, but when I get into the office and start listening to a book on my desktop, I have to find the last point I stopped on my other devices, manually find that point, start playback. Then when I leave, I have to fiddle around with my mobile devices to find where I stopped listening on the desktop!
