Do you love nothing more than getting under the hood of your PC and tweaking it to run faster? You've come to the right place.

Today I conclude my two-part column on tools for getting the complete rundown on your PC's innards, and for customizing your system to help it run at peak performance. Here are three of my favorites from ZDNet Downloads.

SANDRA Plus is a recently revamped version of one of the all-time great diagnostic programs. It offers benchmarking and diagnostic tools for all your hardware, subsystems, networking, and software--from your CPU to Windows. It also includes tune-up tools that make sure every part of your PC runs as fast as possible. (Shareware /Windows)

Wintercooler is a freebie that gives you a detailed look at your hardware and software configurations. It also keeps an eye on your RAM usage and can free memory as needed to speed up your system. Plus, it tweaks your Internet settings so your connection is as fast as possible. (Free/Windows)

HardInfo 2002 Professional gives you an amazingly detailed look at every aspect of your computer, in a well organized, tabbed interface. It offers an astounding amount of information, and also includes a CPU usage monitor and other tools for checking your system's performance. (Shareware/Windows)

Your PC need not be a mystery to you--if you use these system tools. They'll tell you everything you need to know, and make sure your machine runs faster, too.

What tools do you use to monitor and improve system performance? TalkBack to me.
