Apple announced the UK launch of the iPhone on Tuesday, at an event held at its Regent Street store in Central London.

Although the nature of Apple's press conference — which was announced just last week — was kept under wraps until the day, the press and public had a pretty good idea of what to expect.

In fact, the only unexpected announcement of the day was Apple's deal with Wi-Fi hotspot provider The Cloud — iPhone users will have free access to 7,500 of The Cloud's hotspots countrywide.

  • MMS? Really?

MMS is regarded within the mobile industry as a prize turkey - particularly in western Europe. Hardly anyone uses it here. Of course, it's big in Japan, but then again so is video-calling.
