16% of multiservice switches are sold to wireless service providers

In-Stat survey of multiservice switch vendors found that about 16% of their revenues in 2004 came from sales to wireless service providers. Wireless operators use multiservice switches for various purposes in their networks, including packet backhaul of TDM traffic in Radio Access Networks (RANs), handoff of traffic between cell sites, for core ATM backbone networks, and for internal IP VPN networks.
