A Sprint iPad 2 could join the iPhone 5 this October (rumor)

Summary:Sprint is already rumored to get the iPhone 5, but will it also get the iPad 2?

With all of the intense speculation that Sprint will be getting its own version of the iPhone 5 comes another rumor in the same vein: Sprint may also land the iPad 2.

The rumor comes via 9to5Mac, which doesn't cite its sources for the report, but does note that the move could happen as early as this fall. Naturally, there's no confirmation from Sprint or Apple, which makes the rumor fairly tenuous at this point.

But that doesn't mean that the idea doesn't make a whole lot of sense. With its status as the third largest carrier and the only one to still offer unlimited data, Sprint is a natural choice for the next carrier to get not only the iPhone 5, but the iPad 2 as well.

Strangely, the 9to5Mac report notes that the Sprint version of the iPad 2 will be an entirely different one from the version offered by Verizon. That's an odd move considering that both carriers run on similar CDMA networks. Another big question is whether Sprint's iPad 2 will run on Sprint's 4G WiMax network.
