Acer on Tuesday announced the B243PWL, a $329 IPS monitor that falls on the higher end of its B-series line of displays.
In case you aren't in the know, In-Plane Switching (IPS) displays excel in presenting images with high contrast ratios and color accuracy. This makes them ideal for professionals for whom sharp and clear images are highly important. IPS monitors also excel in offering nearly 180-degree viewing angles, which is important for displays like the B243PWL, which is able to swivel and pivot and tilt in all sorts of directions.
This, of course, means that the price of the average IPS display tends to be a bit higher than those of equivalently-sized Twisted Nematic (TN) displays. The trade offs here should be obvious, at least in most cases: Price vs. quality.
The B243PWL is no exception to this, and, at $329, isn't exactly cheap. Still, if accurate color reproduction and high viewing angles are pivotal, the monitor isn't a bad bet. It's available now.
