A content distribution company, Akamai Technologies operates a global server network that helps distribute and accelerate rich media across the Internet.
The delivery provider teamed up with the European Broadcast Union to deliver video to its European audience in France, Finland and the United Kingdom watching on Eurosport, TF1, Canal+, Y.L.E and France Television during the Olympic Games held in Beijing in August this year.
Founded in 1998, Akamai is headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and the company has a workforce of more than 1,300 employees around the world, of which 625 are based in Massachusettes.
For content delivery and application acceleration, the American company has deployed 34,000 servers in 70 countries within nearly 950 networks.
Akamai Technologies ranks among ZDNet Asia's Top 10 fastest-growing companies for 2008/2009.
