AltaVista relaunches Monday

Monday will see the launch of AltaVista's new improved, consumer-friendly portal.

The Compaq-owned search-engine company believes a more consumer-orientated strategy is required to reach the broader customer base currently enjoyed by Yahoo and Excite. AltaVista has traditionally been the search engine of choice for the more tech-savvy, business browser.

The revamped face of AltaVista will include more links to e-commerce and shopping sites, plus product guides for online buyers. AltaVista CEO Rod Schrock and executives will make a live webcast announcing the new sites' plans at 4PM GMT Monday.
