Altiris was founded in 1998 to develop tools that reduce the cost and complexity of managing the IT lifecycle.

Today, the US-based company provides software that enables IT departments to easily manage, secure and service hardware such as servers, desktops, notebooks and handhelds, as well as software which include Windows, Linux and UNIX platforms. Its client and mobile, server, security and IT asset management solutions, natively integrate via a common Web-based console and repository.

With worldwide network of sales and operations, Altiris serves small, medium-sized and large enterprises in industries such as financial services, government and education.

On Sep. 6, 2005, it announced the worldwide launch of Altiris Deployment Solution 6.5 which featured new speed enhancements, security features and heterogeneous hardware and software manageability.

As part of its ongoing focus on security, Altiris announced on Oct. 10, 2005, that it had joined the Microsoft-led SecureIT Alliance. Through this initiative, Altiris will gain access to Microsoft developer programs such as betas, software development kits, early adopter programs and development labs to build security solutions.
