Amazon Echo impressed us enough to earn a perfect 10 rating when launched, and the company has been adding features with additional functionality since then. The latest is the ability to work with the popular Spotify Premium service. This enables working with Spotify through voice commands on the Echo.

Adding Spotify gives Echo control over a range of streaming audio services, including Prime Music, Pandora, iHeartRadio, and TuneIn.

Echo will recognize voice commands with Spotify, such as "Alexa, play jazz on Spotify".

Other features added to the Echo since launch include:

  • Addition of Pandora, and iTunes for voice control
  • Voice control of smart home devices using WeMo including Philips Hue devices
  • Addition of MLB and MLS searches about any game
  • Programmable tasks using iFTTT

This year looks to be a big one for the Echo with rumors that a new mobile version is being developed by Amazon. There will be an expensive TV ad for the Echo airing during the Super Bowl this weekend.
