AMD cuts Athlon prices up to 18%

Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NYSE: AMD) fought back against archrival Intel Corp. (Nasdaq: INTC), Monday by cutting prices on its AMD Athlon desktop processor. AMD reduced prices by up to 18 percent on its fastest Athlon, a 700MHz chip. Intel on Sunday cut prices on a number of existing chips and at introduced a slew of new Pentium III desktop chips in speeds ranging from 500MHz to 733MHz Monday. Story to follow --John G.
