AMD joins Win CE chip players

AMD is the latest firm to give its backing to Microsoft's fledgling Windows CE platform for handheld PCs.

AMD's ElanSC400 microcontroller joins Intel, ARM, PowerPC, Hitachi, MIPS, NEC and Philips processors in supporting the platform.

AMD is expected to shortly release its K6 processor line for deskops PCs and servers. The chip will offer Pentium Pro-class performance and integrate the MMX instruction set.
