The Android Market has officially broken through the 100,000 app barrier according to a post on Twitter from the Android Development team.

The Android Market —Google's official app repository— passed the landmark number on Monday.

In comparison, on 1 September Steve Jobs said that there are more than 250,000 apps available via the iTunes App Store and that in total 6.5bn apps had been downloaded from the store.

In reality the number of apps added to the Apple store likely exceeds 300,000 but as Mobclix notes, that doesn't include the several thousand that get removed each month.
