Anonymous clue found in Sony hack

A Sony statement on the massive PlayStation data breach has revealed a clue that points to involvement from hacktivist group Anonymous.

Sony presented the statement after a US House of Representatives subcommittee meeting with Sony Computer Entertainment America chairman Kazuo Hirai. It gives some insight into the hack that has so far exposed almost 100 million customer records.

Hirai said that Sony had discovered a file inside a Sony Online Entertainment server marked "Anonymous". The file carried the catch-cry of the hacktivist group, "We are Legion".

When the initial breach was revealed, Anonymous issued a statement declaring that the group had nothing to do with the breach. Despite the presence of the file, Sony has not directly blamed Anonymous for the hack.

Sony added that the attack was a carefully planned, very professional, highly sophisticated cyber attack, adding that so far, no major credit card providers have reported any fraudulent transactions as a result of the breach.

Sony's woes continue after it was revealed that millions more customer records had been exposed to the hack, forcing Sony Online Entertainment offline in company with the PlayStation Network and Qriocity music service.
