ANZ goMoney goes Android

ANZ's goMoney was released in August 2010 for Apple iOS, allowing users to transfer money between third-party accounts using mobile phone details alone.
According to ANZ, it was the first bank to release an app on the iPhone platform. In August, the bank processed five million transactions from over 700,000 goMoney users. ANZ said that its customers have already transferred more than $10 billion through their mobile phones so far, this year.
"There has been strong demand for an Android version of goMoney, and a lot of work has been done to ensure our Android version is just as secure and easy to use as our iPhone app," Glen Haslam, ANZ head of product, strategy, and marketing, said in a statement.
An ANZ spokesperson told ZDNet Australia that this new release is a native Android app and that the bank has worked hard to customise the experience for Android users. The app currently carries 95 per cent of the features available on the iOS-based goMoney.
Android goMoney users are unable to create nicknames for different bank accounts at this stage, but that feature will be added in the next app update.
Australian banks have recently been ramping up their efforts in the mobile space.
In July, Commonwealth Bank made its Kaching app available on Android. The following month, NAB launched its banking app for Microsoft's Windows Phone OS.
Meanwhile, Westpac has initiated trials into NFC payments through Android phones, specifically the Samsung Galaxy S III. It is also working on a Windows Phone banking app.
