update According to ANZ, the issue was resolved at 2 p.m. AEDST. Internet banking is currently slower due to high demand. ANZ is still investigating the cause of the outage.

ANZ's customer-facing internet banking capability has been crippled by an outage.

Customers attempting to log in through ANZ's online banking portal are being greeted by a message stating that it is currently unavailable.

The bank was experiencing intermittent issues since just before 1 p.m. AEDST, and thought that the problem was resolved by 1.30 p.m., but has since experienced more issues.

ANZ suspects that it's an internal IT issue, and said that the company already has its people working to find out the root cause. An ANZ spokesperson told ZDNet that the bank hopes to have the issue resolved as soon as possible, but did not provide an estimated time of when the problem will be fixed.

ANZ apologised to customers for the inconvenience that this has caused.

Last month, NAB and its subsidiary UBank also suffered an internet banking outage, which left their customers unable to access their accounts online for several hours.

The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) has said that it is looking to crack down on bank outages after a string of technology glitches from major financial institutions.
