It's budget time of the year with budgets already laid down in the ACT where they helped out e-health and Victoria boost its IT spend. By contrast the Patch Monday lads expect the razor gangs to reappear on the majority of public IT budgets for this year.

One government department likely to buck the trend and receive a boost is Defence. In a whitepaper released last weekend, the role of the CIO has been considerably boosted.

The Conficker worm found its way into the ANZ bank last week, and the interesting feature being the openness with which the bank discussed the infection. We discuss whether a new era of security openness is dawning.
