Apple confirms Sept. 9, 2009 'rock and roll' iPod event; new shuffle desperately needed

Been waiting for a new iPod?

Apple just confirmed its rumored September 9, 2009 music-themed event in San Francisco. The expected announcement? The new iPod lineup, at the very least, with iTunes a possibility and a tablet unlikely, at best.

Those iPods, by the way? Expect cameras on the touch models, as has long been rumored, and perhaps a faster chip inside. Jury's out on the nano model, but the shuffle model desperately needs a "take two" after its poorly-received refresh last March.

(Seen any of those new shuffles around? Yeah, me neither.)

The event will take place at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco at 10 a.m. Pacific Time.

The iPod-style invitation is above: "It's only rock and roll, but we like it."
