Apple dumping Macworld Expo for CES?

A salacious rumor (originating at Cult of Mac) making the rounds here in San Francisco is that Apple will be exhibiting at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas in 2010.

The source, citing “friends who work at Apple,” insisted the company is ditching MacWorld (sic) because it will “go large” at CES, which typically runs concurrently with MacWorld in early January.

This would be an interesting and not totally surprising move commensurate with Apple's shift from being a computer company targeting design professionals to a consumer electronics company (iPod, iPhoto, Apple TV) more along the lines of Sony.

While it may be Apple's swan song at Macworld Expo the company will be exhibiting their wares in new and different ways in the years to come. Apple will expand its iPhone tech talks and possibly even take a page out of Adobe's playbook with themed, multi-city tours.
