Apple results expected Wednesday

Apple acting CEO Steve Jobs will announce the company's fiscal fourth-quarter results on Wednesday, October 14, at Flint Centre in Cupertino, California.

Analysts expect Apple's earnings to exceed Wall Street estimates, based on frenetic consumer sales of the iMac computer. MacWorld reports that Jobs told Mac user-group members in a memo that he will use the event to release results of "the first large-scale research data on who is buying iMacs" and to "announce a major new release of the Macintosh operating system".

Apple is expected to ship Mac OS 8.5 on October 17.
