Apple's long-running patent and intellectual property stoush with Samsung has continued in Japan this week, where the Cupertino-based gadget giant reportedly sought to ban Samsung products from sale in a new suit.

According to Reuters, Apple has filed a suit in a Japanese court that, if successful, would see the Galaxy S and the Galaxy S II smartphone, as well as the 7-inch Galaxy Tab tablet, pulled from shelves.

Apple's legal muscle is also being flexed locally. It hauled Samsung before the New South Wales branch of the Federal Court last month, claiming that the US version of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 infringed on its patents, including "slide to unlock" and the "edge-bump" feature. Its end game was to curtail the release of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet in Australia.

Samsung revealed in a later hearing that it would be countersuing Apple in Australia for patent infringement in Apple's iPhone and iPad product lines.

The Federal Court met this week for the case, where the two squabbled over whether the presence of the Tab 10.1 affected sales figures for the iPad and the iPad 2 in other countries.

Similar cases have also been started in Europe and the US.
