The launch of Apple's iPad next month will pave the way for the arrival of more than 50 tablet PC devices this year, an ARM executive said on Wednesday.

Speaking at a press event in Taipei, ARM worldwide mobile computing ODM manager Roy Chen said the company rented more space at the Computex electronics trade show to head off competition from primary chipmaking rival Intel.

Chen reportedly said that tablet devices will first arrive in Q2 from mobile carriers, with the full onslaught coming in Q3 2010, according to Computerworld.

The company showed off two tablet devices at the press conference, both based on the Google Android platform: a 7-inch model with an Nvidia Tegra 2 processor manufactured by Compal Electronics, and another called the "Armadillo" with a chip made by Freescale Semiconductor.
