Ascend to buy Cascade in new mega-merger
Ascend Communications is to buy Cascade Communications for $3.7 billion in the second networking mega-merger of 1997. In February, 3Com stated its intention to buy US Robotics for just under $6 billion.
Agreed over the weekend, the deal will be accounted for as a stock-for-stock trade.
