AT&T on Thursday said it will launch a hotspot app that will be available with its HTC Inspire 4G. The AT&T Mobile Hotspot will be available Feb. 13 for $20 a month and a 2GB allotment.

If bundled with the AT&T Data Pro plan, you get 4GB a month for $45. That 4GB allotment applies to collective use from all devices. If you go over the AT&T cap it's an extra $10 per gigabyte.

The move is a likely precursor to adding Wi-Fi hotspot capability to AT&T's iPhone. For now, Verizon's iPhone has the exclusive on mobile hotspot functionality.

AT&T added that it will bring its tethering plan in line with its hotspot service.

Add it up and AT&T is positioning itself to add its hotspot plan to its iPhone.
