AT&T signs roaming deal in Cuba

AT&T announced on Monday it has partnered with Cuba's main telecom to provide customers with talk, text, and data while visiting the island.

The telecom provider, Empresa De Telecomunicaciones De Cuba (ETECSA), will provide AT&T customers with direct connection and roaming.

AT&T plans to announce pricing and availability at a later date. Striking a deal right on the island gives AT&T customers cheaper rates and will allow for better call quality, rather than routing calls out of the country or switching SIM cards to another handset.

T-Mobile, Verizon, and Sprint have similar deals.

In late-2014, the White House announced it will begin diplomatic relations with Cuba, opening business opportunities for US companies.

"We cannot keep doing the same thing and expect a different result. It does not serve America's interests, or the Cuban people, to try to push Cuba toward collapse," the administration wrote in a release at the time.
