Athlon 750MHz... You ain't seen nothin' yet

AMD is putting the pressure on Intel during the Christmas rush and you can expect more to come...

Chip underdog AMD will once again gain the lead on Intel's fastest processor when it launches the 750MHz Athlon Monday.

The chip is expected to be between five and ten percent faster than Intel's Pentium III 733MHz and will be in volume immediately according to a source close to the company. That's good news for AMD as Intel struggles to meet demand for its fastest Pentium III.

The source reckons the best is yet to come: "They (AMD) are still using aluminium, wait till they move to copper. You can expect speeds to move up a gear then." AMD is expected to release a 1GHz Athlon sometime "early in Q1" according to the source.
