AMD has just announced today their newest graphics card, the ATI Radeon HD 5970, which they are touting as "the fastest card ever created." Get ready.

AMD is proclaiming many firsts with this card. Besides being the fastest, it's the one of the first to provide support for Microsoft DirectX 11 and Eyefinity multi-display (that's three displays at once) at a max resolution of 7680x1600. It also delivers approximately 5 TeraFLOPS of computer power (or even up to 10 when combined with ATI CrossFireX tech for better game performance). The HD 5970's design also includes an overclocking capability system to keep the card cool, including advanced fan and vapor chamber technologies and a vented exhaust.

In celebration of their fancy new card and their 40th birthday, AMD is also sponsoring a contest, starting today, where participants could win one of 10 Microsoft Xbox 360s or one of 10 Wiis from Nintendo. You can enter by becoming a fan of AMD on Facebook (except I'm really sick of all those fan pages). For all the fine print, click here.

But the Radeon HD 5970 is now available for purchase, yet its probably only for the serious gamers, with a hefty price tag of $599. Any takers?
