update The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) completed transferring data onto its new income tax systems over the long weekend as part of its almost billion-dollar Change Program.

The Tax Office told ZDNet.com.au that overall deployment had gone well and said it expected to have the system "fully available" for staff to begin using it from the week commencing 15 February.

"We have moved the data from our current system into the new system ahead of schedule and all other aspects of the deployment are on track," a spokesperson for the Tax Office said.

"This has been a significant undertaking where we converted approximately 27 million taxpayer records, 32 million accounts and 282 million forms into our new system."

The Change Program is to cost $879 million.
