auDA weans customers from Bottle
The Victorian Supreme Court has dismissed Bottle Domains' appeal against being stripped of its accreditation by the Australian Domain Name Administrator (auDA), leading to its .au customers being migrated to auDA.
The court's dismissal removed an injunction that had prevented auDA migrating Bottle's customers. auDA CEO, Chris Disspain told ZDNet Australia that AusRegistry had closed Bottle's Australian base and a customer migration to auDA had taken place this morning.

ZDNet Australia contacted Warren Erfurth, chief executive officer consulting for Australian Style Group — partial owner of Bottle Domains. Erfurth said the company had contacted Disspain about the migration process, but had not heard back from auDA.
Disspain confirmed that he had received Erfurth's email, but said that he hadn't had time to get back to him.
"I'm not quite sure what he imagines that there would be to discuss. We undertake our process [which is] the termination and the transfer of customers," Dispain said.
Bottle Domains took auDA to court after the administrator terminated its .au accreditation in 2009 because Bottle Domains had failed to report a major security breach in a timely fashion. The breach resulted in a patching process which Bottle believed was satisfactory. It was only reported to the regulator in 2009 after a second breach was followed up by the Australian Federal Police.
Bottle lost the case against auDA and launched an appeal. The appeal was dismissed by three Supreme Court judges on Friday.
Disspain said that the only reason auDA had waited until Monday to migrate customers was that it was "impolite" to do so on a Friday afternoon.
"Every customer will be receiving an email from us today. [auDA acts] as an interim registrar ... but there's no risk to [customers] ... they just need to find themselves another registrar. We will assist and facilitate that process," Disspain said.
Bottle released a statement on Friday after the appeal was dismissed, which said that auDA-appointed auditors had deemed its security environment to be "at or above industry standards".
Bottle Domains continues to operate as a registrar for other domain names including .com, .org and .net.
