Energy supplier Ausgrid has made a swathe of information available to app developers, providing data on neighbourhood electricity use, solar power generation and work that is being carried out on the electricity network.

The data, which spans the territory of 39 local governments, has been released at www.ausgrid.com.au/datatoshare for the use of app developers.

The company has also released an online tool based on Google Maps to present the data, which will be updated every three months.

Ausgrid managing director George Maltabarow said that the new web-based tool provided access to information that has never been seen before.

"It gives the entire community a view on many layers of information in their local neighbourhood. We hope that people who access it will find out more about what's going on in their local area, and find ways to use it that suits them."
