Average IT salary down 2.6% in 2004

The average salary for IT workers decreased 2.6% from $69,900 in 2003 to $67,800 in 2004, according to Dice, which surveyed 23,000 technology professionals. One significant trend is that professionals in the government and defense sectors, as well as affiliated industries, saw their salary rise from $64,600 to $66,500, passing their colleagues in both the manufacturing and Internet services sectors.
