Baidu selects Schneider Electric for their first modular datacenter

Schneider has previously worked with Baidu to provide custom IT cabinets as part of Baidu’s open source-based Project Scorpio.

Baidu, the largest Chinese website and most-used search engine in China (where Google has long since pulled out rather than meet the content requirements laid down by the Chinese government) has selected Schneider Electric to build their first containerized datacenter modules. Schneider has a large selection of standardized datacenter container modules built around both their hardware expertise in UPS and power supply experience and their DCIM software solution StruxureWare.  They have been offering customers both partially prefabricated and fully pre-fabricated datacenter modules, ranging from simple containers prewired to meet the customer needs to complete IT datacenter solutions incorporating their latest hardware and software solutions.

For Baidu, the two datacenter modules contracted for are being built to meet the specific requirements that Baidu set forth in their request for proposals.

The two Baidu M1 datacenter modules are to be delivered as complete solutions. This means that in addition to the infrastructure components, such as in-row cooling, cable plant, cabinets, access control, fire suppression systems, and DCIM software to manage the module, Schneider will be delivering them completely configured with the IT infrastructure components, as well.

The M1 datacenter modules are targeted at Baidu’s goals of being able to quickly deploy additional capacity while improving their environmental footprint as they move towards a greener Baidu.

The modules will be highly flexible and environmentally secure, allowing them to be deployed where required (either indoors or out), and have easy configuration as a high priority, allowing them to be reconfigured or repurposed with a minimum of effort.
