Device joins the iPhone and Nokia devices in running the BBC on-demand TV service

The BBC's online on-demand TV service iPlayer has been made available on BlackBerry smartphones.

The iPlayer application for BlackBerrys is now available to download from BlackBerry App World for free and allows users to watch and listen to BBC radio and television shows live or from the past seven days.

The service will be available for the BlackBerry Storm 2, Bold 9700 and Torch 9800 devices. As well as being able to access iPlayer over wi-fi, BlackBerry owners can also use the service over 3 and Vodafone's mobile networks.

iPlayer was launched in the summer of 2007, initially just for Windows XP.

It was gradually rolled out to other platforms such as Windows Vista, Mac and Linux as well as variety of mobile devices including Apple's iPhone and iPod.

The most recent iteration of the service arrived in September this year and features the BBC iD sign-in technology which allows users to personalise the interface, automate programme downloads and share content via Facebook and Twitter.
