But IBM chairman Sam Palmisano is going to be Mr. Open Source for 2005,as heprobably was for 2004 and 2003.

The Clue comes from our own Charles Cooper, writing about Palmisano's sale this week of his PC business to Lenovo, a Chinese outfit.

deal, in other words, didn't just clearIBM's decks of commodity hardware. It cleared IBM's decks of Microsoft, aliasBigGreen.This leaves IBM unshackled for a full-on attack at the heart of Big Green's "monopoly."

Big Blue vs. Big Green. A heavyweight grudge match 20 years in the making.

With Linux in his line-up, don't bet against Blue.
