Islamic and Christian fundamentalists may tell you it's god's will, but science says locust swarms are tiggered by environmental cirucmstances...and powered by a hormone called serontonin. The hormone is a strong mood enabler in humans and other mammals as well.

Throughout history locust swarms have been a factor in prairie and grassland habitat prone to dought and food shortages. Understanding the causes and biochemistry of locust swarms may enable humans to control or thwart future swarming behavior.
