Blair joins campaign to beat Millennium bug

Prime Minister Tony Blair had another Millennium problem on his mind yesterday when he threw his weight behind the Action 2000 Millennium Bug Campaign.

Setting a "100-day" alarm bell ringing when he said that "there is just enough time to tackle the problem", Blair added that businesses "must act now" and "this is one deadline that cannot be missed."

Headed by OFTEL boss Don Cruickshank and not Peter Mandelson, flag bearer of that other Millennium project, The Millennium Bug Campaign has produced a booklet to help raise awareness of the Year 2000 problem among businesses of all sizes.

"This is one of the most serious problems facing British business and the global economy today," added Blair.
