Steel giant BlueScope, which acquired Smorgon Steel Group last year, will take on its SAP supply chain software.

BlueScope's building materials business, Lysaght, will move onto the SAP system from Movex ERP. The move puts BlueScope's distribution and Lysaght businesses under a single area of control.

The decision comes after the company's chief executive Paul O'Malley yesterday announced that after-tax profits had fallen to AU$116 million, which is less than half what the company achieved in the same period last year.

The migration to SAP is expected to take between 12 months and two years.

BlueScope last year also signed an eight-year AU$480 million deal with outsourcing company CSC for application development work and systems integration work.
