Borland is once again targeting Java software developers orphaned by the demise of WebGain, maker of the popular Visual Café Java development tool.

Borland on Thursday will release a "migration" tool that allows Visual Café customers to easily switch to Borland's JBuilder Java developer tool. The migration tool allows a developer to transfer a software project from Visual Café to Borland's JBuilder format. Earlier this summer, Borland joined IBM, Sun Microsystems and Oracle in offering price discounts and training classes for their own tools to capture customers of WebGain, which went out of business earlier this summer. Start-up TogetherSoft recently acquired the Visual Café tools and plans to update the product in the future. --Wylie Wong, Special to ZDNet News
