Even with online retail giant eBay as its new owner, Braintree is proving its value on its own with some major partnership and international expansion plans at work.
The digital payments platform has inked a new deal with American Express, touting that this collaboration is making one-touch mobile commerce available for the first time at a global level.
But let's bring things back down to Earth, so to speak.
The international scheme being announced today is specifically in regards to Braintree's Venmo Touch wallet app, which was brought into the company through a previous acquisition of its own.
Braintree itself already operates on an international playing field in more than 40 countries across North America, Europe and Australia, processing digital payments in more than 130 currencies.
Venmo Touch is being brought to the United Kingdom first with the help of the credit card giant's well-established network.
This means that merchants already subscribing to Venmo Touch with footprints in the U.K., including HotelTonight and LivingSocial, as well as local businesses across the pond (and even American Express itself) will be able to take advantage ofin the United States.
Venmo Touch is going live in the U.K. immediately. Braintree plans to extend support for Venmo Touch (and beef up its customer portfolio) across Europe in the coming months.
