Faith vs Fear
While over 60% of survey participants believed that the best approach to B2B online was to establish a new model and process, about one-fifth of the surveyed believed it was better to create a parallel business. The most popular approach by far was to extend existing business online.

This, said Prakash, indicated that a sizeable number of people still did not have confidence in the Internet.

"They want to do business online, but not be an online company."

- Aseem Prakash, IKO

Which model? No, not the ones with legs
People understand e-business trading hubs, says Prakash. Senior management ranked it as the most preferred business model, as compared to Internet auction sites - popular in the US, but not here.

The least preferred business model was the online supplier catalog.

"Most traditional companies have realized that they have lost the game to the dot coms in the B2C (business-to-consumer) area."

- Aseem Prakash, IKO
