BSkyB to kill off analogue TV

Beating its schedule by almost two years, BSkyB is getting rid of analogue TV in favour of digital
Written by Will Knight, Contributor

Satellite broadcaster BskyB (quote: BSY) is to switch off analogue TV in the UK in favour of digital technology nearly two years ahead of schedule.

The accelerated growth of digital television technology means that BSkyB's analogue services will be killed off by the end of 2002. BSkyB is expected to announce its intentions Wednesday.

According to reports, BSkyB will save around £60m by moving the schedule forward, but it may also be fined £30m for terminating its contract with satelite company SES-Astra early.
