BT Wholesale will soon have a new chief executive following the revelation that Sally Davis, a four-year veteran in the role, is to step down.

BT said on Monday that Davis was leaving the post for personal reasons. Nigel Stagg, currently the managing director of BT Business, will take her place at the start of September. Davis will stay around until the end of October to ensure a smooth handover.

"Sally has been a key member of our executive team and so I very much regret her departure," BT chief executive Ian Livingstone said in a statement. "She has competing demands on her time however and so I fully respect her decision and would like to thank her for all she has done for BT. Nigel has a wealth of experience at BT and has delivered great results in a variety of roles."

BT Wholesale, which had revenues last year of £4.2bn, supplies BT broadband and telephony connectivity to other ISPs and telecoms resellers and provides networking services for global broadcasters.

"BT Wholesale is at the heart of BT underpinning many of the services that businesses and residential users take for granted," Stagg said in a statement. "It is a very large business with revenues of more than £4bn a year and it supports many of the largest telecoms providers in the UK, including the major mobile companies."

A BT spokesman told ZDNet UK on Tuesday that no-one has yet been appointed to replace Stagg at the helm of BT Business, the company's SME services division.
