Should we have quotes of the day here on Between the Lines?  As I research my stories, I come across all sorts of interesting quotes (on the phone, in the blogosphere, etc.).  Let me know because some quotes are excellent jump off points for entire conversations.  For a blog that I'm working on, I came across a very interesting but not very well publicized characteristic of the Sun authored Common Development and Distribution License (the CDDL).  It comes from an older blog of Sun's Simon Phipps:

The idea of the CDDL is to seed a patent portfolio for the code-base involved, and then ensure that as contributions are made over time each contributor also supplies the community with the patent rights necessary to defend their work.

More to come but feel free to talk amongst yourselves about what the possibilities are.   Think reconciliation.
