Bug in new browser embarrasses Netscape

Summary:Two-week-old Communicator 4.7 crashed by dynamic link

A fault in Netscape Communicator 4.6.1 and 4.7 for Windows means the browser can be automatically crashed by a static Web page carrying a particularly crafty dynamic link.

The fault, discovered by researchers at the independent security site Whitehat.com , overloads the browser with random nonsense. This page carries specific details of the problem as well as a link to a page that will demonstrate the flaw for anyone masochistic enough to want to crash their own browser.

The fault is a blow for Netscape which only released version 4.7 of Communicator two weeks ago. Linux users will however no doubt be once again chuckling behind their hands... the flaw does not appear to effect the Linux version of the browser.
