Can the Motorola Q11 compete in today's market without a 3G radio?

The original Motorola Q was really the Windows Mobile device that started the trend of BlackBerry QWERTY competitors a couple of years ago, but had serious battery life issues. Since then Motorola has continued to improve the device so that today's Motorola Q9 devices are actually quite powerful, functional, and reliable. The one wireless feature they currently lack is WiFi, but they do have 3G radios. Unwired View revealed that the Motorola Q11 is now up on the Motorola site even though no official press release has been issued. This device does have WiFi, but loses the 3G radio so I am not sure it is really a step up from the Q9 devices. Then again, I understand this device is supposed to be priced competitively.

On my non-touch smartphones I rarely use WiFi, except for streaming video content, but I do use the 3G radio all the time and with the Motorola Q line targeted to the enterprise I am not sure if releasing a smartphone in late 2008 without a 3G radio is a sound decision and I would love to know why they made this tradeoff. Other specifications of the Q11 include a 3 megapixel camera, microSD card, Bluetooth 2.1 radio, Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard, and an integrated GPS radio. It is interesting to see in the specs list that Pocket IE 6 is stated and I really hope this means that we will finally see "6 on 6" coming from Microsoft before the end of 2008 as the mobile browser wars heat up.

There is no pricing information available yet for the Motorola Q11, but availability is expected for December of 2008.
