Car alarms go hi-tech with Bluetooth

Ericsson to add Bluetooth technology to trusty 'street screamers'

Ericsson has formed an alliance with Mannesman VDO to develop car alarms with built-in Bluetooth connectivity.

Ericsson claims that by 2003 over 10 million cars will be equipped with alarm devices resembling mobile phones. These will be used in case of an accident.

"We expect this to be a big new market," said Gunilla Nordstrom, president of mobile terminal modules at Ericsson. "We plan to develop a complete product portfolio and we expect that the market will boom in 2001."
