It's always difficult to get cinema tickets in Malaysia for big blockbusters when they first come out.

One way movie lovers overcome this is to book their tickets online or through the phone.

The only problem with this approach is that if you don't arrive 45 minutes before showtime, your tickets will be sold off as it's just a booking, with no payment made.

Golden Screen Cinema and Maybank have now joined forces to allow consumers to select their seats and pay for their tickets in advance through the former's GSC Web site.

The payment will be in the form of a direct debit from the customer's savings or current account through the bank's Maybank2u Web site.

However, customers are required to print out the confirmation receipt and present it at the cinema's reservation counter to collect their tickets.

Now, wouldn't it be nice if they made this process entirely paperless by sending a confirmation receipt to the customers' mobile phones? It could appear as some kind of bar code that can then be scanned at the ticketing counter.

It may take some time for the Malaysian society to fully move into the digital age, but slowly and surely we are getting there.
